Half Marathon success for MNDA
Eight members complete the Antrim Coast Half Marathon for MNDA
On 6th August our Club President Norman Baird, sadly lost his very tough battle with Motor Neurone Disease. A huge loss to the family and to Newry Olympic.
Norman's son, Club Chairman Andrew, and another seven members from the hockey club took part in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon on Sunday 24th August 2025 to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in Norman's memory.
In a fantastic effort, all successfully completed the run in around two hours and raised over £2,500 for the MNDA.
Andrew's Story
On the 24th of August 2025, Gareth Moffett, Gareth McCullough, Jeremy Greer, Josh Porter, Keith McWilliams, Marcus Murdock, Ryan Simms and I will be running the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Northern Ireland Branch (MNDA NI).
This cause is very close to our hearts. Earlier this year, my father Norman was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Watching how this illness affects not just the person but the entire family has been incredibly difficult — and it’s what has driven us to take on this challenge and do what we can to support others going through the same.
The MNDA NI focus on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in Northern Ireland. By sponsoring us your money will help people affected by Motor Neurone Disease.
Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the MND Association. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, your details are safe - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails.
Thank you so much for your support.

Update - Monday 25th August
Yesterday we completed the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Northern Ireland Branch.
It was an emotional day for all of us, made even more so by the fact that my father, Norman, sadly passed away on 6th August, just a few weeks before the event. While he wasn’t able to see us cross the finish line, we carried his memory with us every step of the way.
We are so grateful for every single donation, message, and word of encouragement. Thank you.
