Charity Fund Raising for Kenny - 20 & 21 Dec 2025

The weekend of 20th and 21st December 2025 will be a very special fund-raising one for Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI, with the local sporting community coming together in memory of our former member and friend Kenny Cowan

Players and friends from local football and hockey circles will be joined by Kenny's former Norbrook Pharmaceutical work colleagues at Newry Olympic Hockey Club grounds on Saturday 20th December and Sunday 21st December, for a unique weekend to remember their dear friend Kenny Cowan and raise as much money as possible for Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI in his memory.

Kenny tragically passed away on 7th September after a sudden and short illness. Kenny's wife Sharon and sons Jonny and Kris, have nominated Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI as their chosen charity to benefit from the funds raised.

A past Chairman and coach in local football with Damolly Football Club and an active member of the Newry Branch of the Northern Ireland Supporters Club, Kenny was also a past Chairman and 3rd XI Captain of Newry Olympic Hockey Club. He was also a founder, past captain and active member of the NOHC Golf Society.

A full weekend of events have already been planned to raise funds for this very worthy cause. The busy schedule reflects Kenny's sporting interests over the years. Mixed 7-a-side football, hockey matches and golf competitions during the day, are supported by darts and entertainment from DJ's and live bands in the Newry Olympic HC clubhouse each evening.

It's hoped as many people as possible will support this special event.

All proceeds go to Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI, the only charity in NI dedicated to research into developing life-saving new treatments for Blood Cancers. All money remains in NI to fund work carried out here by the Blood Cancer Group at the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research near Belfast City Hospital.

Paul, Bod & Katie are hoping as many former and current hockey players as possible can support this very special fundraising event.

Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. The match will be played in four quarters with multiple roll-on roll-off subs.

Any senior player participating will be asked for a £20 donation towards the charity, £10 donation for students, or alternatively you can ask family, friends or businesses for sponsorship. Participants with a minimum of £50 sponsorship will be exempt from the player's donation fee.
