South Antrim 4s 0-3 Newry Olympic 2s

Newry Men’s 2nds played out a dominant three nil victory over South Antrim on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of their 2021/22 campaign. 

Newry handed debuts to 15 year old brothers Noah and Jonah Lutton, as well as experienced players Ivor Lutton, Jonny Ross and Simon Moffett returning to the fold after over a decade away.

With it being the first game of the season, there was always going to be the possibility of lethargy and a lack of sharpness in Newry’s play, however from start to finish Newry produced a commanding performance. 

Newry opened the scoring late in the first half when a fine through ball by Gareth Moffett was met with an outrageous diving deflection by Daryl Barlow.

Newry started the second half as they finished the 1^st and went two up with McCafferty finished off a flowing move, after great build up between Moffett and Graham.

South Antrim had chances, but the Newry defence of Graham, Lawson, Lutton and Ross stood firm.

Newry sealed the 3 points when McCafferty slipped the ball to Gareth Moffett, who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to seal all 3 points for the away side.

Newry 2s will host Instonians on this coming Saturday 18th September at 1pm, all support welcome.
