Parkview Ladies 2-2 Newry Olympic Ladies

Jan 06, 2023

Senior League 3

Well deserved point for Ladies against Parkview.

A fantastic start back for the Newry Olympic Ladies after the Christmas break, as they travelled to Ballyclare to play Parkview Ladies on Friday evening 6th January, finishing the game with a 2-2 draw.

Newry started strongly and were quick to get their first goal when the ball was picked up by centre-mid Kathryn Baird who played a crash ball into Parkview’s circle winning a short corner. The ball was injected out to Laverne Inns at the top of the circle whose strike rebounded off the keeper only to be picked up by right winger Sarah McNeilly who drove the ball into the back of the net.

For the rest of the first half, Newry maintained possession, creating some great play and numerous opportunities driving the ball forward. However, not long before the half time whistle, Parkview managed to equalise.

In the second half Newry were determined to get another goal and it wasn’t long before they regained the lead. After winning a short corner, the ball was passed to Sarah McNeilly on the right post who slipped the ball across the goal to Kathryn Baird at the other post who in turn slammed the ball into the home side's goal.

Newry fought hard to keep the score line 2-1, but with only minutes to go Parkview managed to get a second goal, ending the game 2-2.

It was a great performance by the Newry ladies who played really well as a team and dominated the majority of the game.
