North Down 4-2 Newry Olympic (IHT)

Irish Hockey Trophy

Newry Olympic 1s travelled to Comber on Saturday in their 1st Round Irish Hockey Trophy match versus North Down.

Things did not start well as Newry gifted North Down a goal after a mistake in defence with only 2 minutes gone. And things just got worse after another mistake in defence let the home side double their lead.

Newry did start to force some chances, but were unable to make them count. Just before the break North made it three for a commanding half time lead.

In the second half and with a change of tactics, Newry did manage to assert more pressure, and got a goal back through Keith McWilliams. However North scored from a deflected short corner and the game was all but over.

John Taylor got a second for Newry from a short corner, but with only 6 minutes left it was too little too late.

Newry host South Antrim at home next Saturday in the league and will be looking to put this disappointing result behind them.
