Ulster Hockey Girls U18 League

History was made at the club's Belfast Road ground on Wednesday 17th November 2021, when the Newry Olympic Girls U18s took to the pitch to play their first competitive match in the Ulster Hockey U18 league.

Playing under floodlights against an experienced Armagh side, the game was really competitive with both sides evenly matched.

In the first half Olympic took the lead with a well taken goal from Jessica Dodds. Despite pressure from both teams, the first half ended with Newry having a well deserved 1-0 advantage.

Armagh fought back in the second half however and eventually found an equaliser in the third quarter.

WIth both teams looking for the winner, it was Armagh who came out on top with a second goal in the final quarter.

This was a tremendous first match for the Newry girls, who showed great skill and determination against an Armagh side that has been playing together for a few years.

It was also a fantastic achievement for the club's youth coaches, who have brought together a group of young players from accross the surrounding area; including Newry, Dundalk, Newtownhamilton, Markethill, Banbridge and Rathfriland; and formed them into a talented squad, ready to make the club's competitive debut in the Ulster Hockey Under 18 league.
