Shruti gets a hat-trick in big win against Dromore

The U15 girls' great start to the new season continued with a fantastic win against Dromore, played at Friends School in Lisburn.

Newry started the game against Dromore on the front foot. The girls played some great hockey in the opening quarter and were rewarded when Rachel Harshaw picked out Shruti Suresh at the back post for a simple tap in. The second goal followed soon after when Brianna Gregg was able to convert a penalty corner with a super hit from the top of the circle.

Dromore grew into the game in the second quarter, but Newry managed to grab a third goal when Shruti again expertly finished following a great move from Brianna and Rachel.

The third quarter was a more even contest, the Olympic defence held strong with Abby Moffett in goals keeping her concentration to clear any Dromore shots.

In the fourth quarter, the Newry girls again came out on top and Shruti completed a brilliant hat-trick when she pounced on a loose ball in the circle to smash home her third and the team's fourth goal of the game.

Coach Colin Henning said after the game, "This was a great result for the girls and a fantastic team effort. It shows the work the whole squad are putting in at training."

He added, "Big thanks go to Dromore for the game, to South Antrim for hosting and to all the parents for their fantastic support once again!"

The next match is on 13th November against Banbridge, playing at Armagh.
