Late goal takes the win for Ballynahinch

Newry Olympic Ladies travelled to Ballynahinch on Friday 11 November evening and narrowly missed out on three points.

Ballynahinch were on the attack right from the start and had a few early chances, but with good pressure from Newry’s defence they were unable to score.

At times throughout the first half Newry struggled to get the ball forward on hit outs, however the midfield worked well to play the ball up to the front line. The Olympic girls managed to carve out a few chances before the end of the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Going into the second half, Newry were determined not to concede any goals. Ballynahinch won a couple of penalty corners, but with great pressure from first runner Rhianna Hale the score remained nil nil.

From open play the home side worked the ball into Newry’s circle getting multiple shots on goal. They were kept out by great saves from goalkeeper Katie McCullough and one effort being well stopped on the line by sweeper Chrissie McAuley.

Newry's attack was also pushing forward. Centre back Suzanne Gilmore played a lovely pass to left wing Rose Clarke who was one on one with the Ballynahinch keeper, but her shot slipped just wide of the net.

Despite more fantastic saves by the Olympic keeper McCullough, Hinch scored the only goal of the match with only minutes to go.

This was a disappointing end to the match for the Newry Ladies, who definitely deserved to come away with at least a draw.
