Junior Shield - Semi-Final

Mens 2s lose out to favourites Instonians in Junior Shield semi-final

Newry Olympic Mens 2s travelled to Shaw's Bridge in Belfast on Friday 3 March 2023, to face an impressive unbeaten Instonians 3s side under the floodlights in the Junior Shield semi final.

Newry put up a spirited fight but eventually conceded three late goals to go down 4-0.

Instonians as they have done all season, started brightly and quickly went one up capitalising on a defensive mistake.

Newry shrugged this off and started to play their way into the game, but could not make the most of the chances they created.

Richard Henning in the Newry goal was in fine form and kept the strong home side at bay, including making a great save from a penalty stroke. Newry held out until the beginning of the third quarter when Inst got their second.

Newry started to look leggy as Inst moved in for the kill, scoring two further goals to run out deserved 4-0 winners and take their place in the Junior Shield final.
