Golf society's first outing

17 August 2021

Sun shines on the golfers' first day out!

On the 25th July 2021 Newry Olympic Hockey Club's first golf society outing was held at Banbridge Golf Club.

With 39 past and present members showing up, this turned out to be a superb day’s golf with the weather absolutely tailor-made for golf.

On the day in Banbridge, Trevor Anderson returned a superb 39 points to take the victory. In 2nd Place was Mark Barlow with 37 points and in 3rd place was Peter Mcknight. The longest drive prize on the 14th hole went to Jeremy Greer, with the closest to the pin on the 18th hole going to Richard Nummy.

£55 was raised for Charity from the “Dreaded Snake” penalty which every group’s holder kindly donated to.

Many thanks has to go to Brian Lockhart for kindly donating and cooking burgers for all golfers afterwards, for some this was the best part of the day!!

The Society Committee where absolutely delighted with the turn out, as 39 people showing up was well above the expectations for how it would go and give’s great encouragement for the Committee to press forward to organise another event for this season and to start planning for the 2022 season.

The next outing is on Saturday 4th September @ Mannan Castle Golf Club, everyone is welcome. After the outing there will be a BBQ and prize giving back at the Hockey Club which we hope everyone, including anyone who doesn’t play golf, will come along too for a catch up with past and present members.  If you haven't yet signed up, just drop us a line below.

Once again many thanks to all who turned up for what was a very memorable first Golf Society Outing!
